What we do

Stratford Counselling is a small and responsive practice in Stratford-upon-Avon, providing counselling for adults who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional and mental wellbeing.

At Stratford Counselling, the focus is on connection, not correction.
Founded by Mandy York Ford in 2019, the practice offers a calm, confidential space where you can talk openly, feel supported, and start to make sense of your story.
The approach is radically genuine, rooted in real human connection, while always upholding the ethical principles and professional standards of the BACP, ensuring therapy that is both authentic and safe.

How it works

Finding the right counsellor for you is really important, as well as feeling you have a choice of how your therapy is delivered. A complimentary (30 minute) introductory meeting, gives you the opportunity to discuss what you want from the counselling process and also how working together could be.

1.

INITIAL CONTACT

A complimentary (30 minute) meeting in person, will give you an idea of what to expect and also for you to see if you feel comfortable. You are under no obligation to commit to working together if it doesn’t feel right for you.

2.

YOUR FIRST 60 minute session £60

Should we agree to work together, we’ll schedule your first counselling session. Part of our first session will involve creating a working agreement, this will determine how we will work together, and you can consider what you would like to gain from the process and which areas you feel are important to discuss, we’ll revisit our agreement regularly.

3.

Sessions

There is no right or wrong way to be in therapy. There is no limit to sessions as long as they are helpful to you. Some people find shorter term working is enough while others may work more longer term. For some one session can be helpful enough. During our meetings you’ll decide what you’d like to consider or talk about, we’ll take it from there.

CARL ROGERS

“It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go,what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried”.

Counselling changes lives.

Sometimes in life we reach a point where we need a helping hand to find a way out of our problems.

Whether it’s a new problem, or something that’s rearing it’s head from the past, counselling helps you understand yourself, your feelings and reactions. With this knowledge comes personal growth and change.

One-to-one counselling, gives you space to think about your life, your history and who you are now. Counselling helps navigate your lowest moments and make sense of what is happening in your life. You’ll be invited to be yourself (the real you), to talk about the things you feel are important and to express your thoughts and emotions. This takes place in an environment where you are valued, respected and free of judgment. Counselling is more than sitting in a chair talking, it’s the opportunity to engage in a dynamic and honest endeavour which provides an arena for change.
